Llyn Dinas is located just to the east of Beddgelert, beside the A498. The Afon Goch flows into its southern end and offers a sporting grade 1 ghyll scramble through pleasant scenery. Escape points are everywhere making this a good introductory ghyll scramble.

There are several lay-bys on the road where cars can be parked. Take the signed footpath from the south end of the lake and cross a footbridge over a river. Walk a few more minutes round the lake shore until the path fords a stream; this is the Afon Goch, and the start of the route. Enter the stream bed and follow it over small rises to a few longer steps.

Even when the flow is low the rock may be wet and slippery. After a bit, a larger waterfall is reached which is split into two sections. Climb up the first smaller section. The second section is higher and is best climbed on the right side. Above this the channel relaxes again as it passes through bracken and rhododendrons. After a few more short steps a larger fall can be seen ahead. Continue to its base.

This waterfall constitutes the crux. A direct ascent looks tempting but is extremley slippery and lacking in holds. Instead, scramble up a runnel on the right hand side. Above this is another small step which can be climbed on the right or left. All difficulties are now over. The stream can be followed over a few more steps. Where it makes a tight turn a wall flanking the right bank offers a few metres of traversing.

Just beyond this the channel negotiates a rocky runnel before one final small step is climbed. Follow the stream until a smaller channel comes in on the right. Walk beside this channel until you find the footpath on its right bank.

Turn right and follow this back to Llyn Dinas. Alternatively, the scramble could be followed by a cross-country trek over to Cnicht.
